Officials from the Mumbai Crime Branch’s Enforcement branch busted a prostitution racket at a residential society in Andheri on Wednesday. Police also rescued three women, including a model, from the spot.
Three other women, including the main accused who was running the racket, have also been arrested, said police. Those arrested have been identified as Sunita Jha, 65, Maddy Smith alias Madhu, 64, and Twinkle Jha, 31.
“Sunita Jha is the main accused and an astrologer by profession. She was running the racket from her flat in the Andheri society, which was raided by police,” said Inspector Anita Kadam from the Enforcement branch.
According to police sources, Crime Branch officials had received specific inputs that an astrologer was running a prostitution racket in the society. Based on the inputs, police sent a dummy customer and after verification of the input, raided the flat and rescued the three women.
The rescued women, all in their early 30s, have been sent to the women’s shelter room.
The accused women have been handed over to the Amboli police station. Police have booked the accused under relevant sections of the Immoral Trafficking Prevention Act.
