BEST cancels many bus routes, diverts others amid waterlogging

According to BEST, major bus depots such as Anik, Kalakilla, PND, Wadala, Worli and Mumbai Central were critically impacted.

The commuters faced inconvenience as services of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) buses were affected due to the heavy rainfall in Mumbai on Monday.

As of 3 pm, the BEST published a a detailed table listing the affected depots, road locations and specific route numbers being temporarily diverted or discontinued.

According to BEST, major bus depots such as Anik, Kalakilla, PND, Wadala, Worli and Mumbai Central were critically impacted.

The earliest diversions commenced at 9 am at Shell Colony with bus routes 360, 355 and 357 being redirected via Chembur Naka. By 10 am, commuters heading north or towards Gandhi Market from Kalakilla depot faced changes as buses on several routes were diverted through Bhau Daji Road.

The Anik depot also reported interruptions for routes passing through Shivsrushti and Nehru Nagar S T depot from 10.30 am onward, with several buses rerouted via S G Barve Marg.

At the same time, Sangam Nagar under PND depot saw routes 110 and 117 curtailed at Hanuman Mandir. Another major curtailment occurred at CGS colony with several routes being sent through Shaikh Mistry Dargah Road.

“Due to heavy rains today and severe water logging at multiple locations across Mumbai, several bus routes have been diverted, curtailed, or cancelled to ensure commuter safety and prevent our buses from getting stranded. We have made these decisions based on real-time traffic conditions and availability of safe alternative routes for passengers,” said a BEST official.

The RCF Railway Bridge experienced repeated disruptions for routes 430 and 363, which were diverted via R C Road atleast twice during the day. Wadala depot was particularly affected around 11 am when the B A Road at Hindmata in the southbound direction forced routes 368 and C40 to turn towards Bhoiwada.

“I usually catch the bus from Worli for my shift in Colaba, but today morning since the route was curtailed at Sant Rohidas Chowk, I had to find another way. The diversions and long waits are making it tough to reach south Mumbai,” said Meena Ghosh.

By 12.45 PM, more Wadala routes were diverted at Sharda Cinema and by 2.05 pm, northbound B A Road at Hindmata affected routes 368 and C40 which were again rerouted through Bhoiwada.

“My office is in Churchgate and I travel every day from Mumbai Central, but today because my bus was diverted at Gol Mandir, I had to get down much earlier and walk a long distance. With all this water on the road, reaching work became exhausting,” said Ayaz Khan, an accountant.
