Cop held for raping woman after inviting her for ‘women’s day event’ in Beed: police

The alleged incident happened around 11.30 am on March 8 when the accused constable called the woman to a makeshift police residence claiming that a women’s day programme was being held there.

A police constable from Beed district was arrested Monday for allegedly raping a woman.

The accused was identified as Uddhav Gadkar (35), police said.

The alleged incident happened around 11.30 am on March 8 when the accused constable called the woman to a makeshift police residence claiming that a women’s day programme was being held there.

According to Beed police, when the woman reached there, he took her to an isolated spot where he allegedly raped her, the police said.

Inspector Somnath Jadhav said that they arrested Gadkar and medical examination of the woman has confirmed the rape.

“Gadkar was arrested and produced before a court which remanded him in police custody till March 12,” Jadhav said.

The officer said that the woman had come to the police station where the constable was posted to file a complaint over domestic violence a few weeks ago.

Following this, Gadkar had taken her number and spoken to her over phone a couple of times, the officer added.
