Abu Azmi has approached the state Home Ministry against water pilferage in his constituency and sought police protection for civic officials.

A delegation of Samajwadi Party leaders, led by Azmi, met Home Minister RR Patil and sought an action plan in this regard.

Patil had convened a meeting of police and municipal corporation officers to decide on the issue. Azmi said he had informed Patil about 185 complaints registered in the Shivaji-Mankhurd region.

“The state government has now assured the BMC of police presence during its action. The BMC has already identified the trouble spots and policemen will be deployed in these areas,” a senior Home Department official said.

The BMC has recently set up a toll-free helpline number 108 for citizens to call to register their complaints round the clock.
