WHILE THE central government has decided to set up the Central Institute for Plastic Engineering and Technology (CIPET) at Chandrapur, the Mahashtra government plans to revive the now-defunct Maharashtra Antibiotics and Pharmaceutical Limited (MAPL) unit here.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has also handed over “offer letters” to two industries Gujarat Foil Ltd and Rudra Farm and Processing Unit to start their aluminium unit at Umred industrial area in Nagpur district, and food unit at Deori in Gondia district, respectively. The two units together are expected to bring investments worth Rs 1,809 crore.
Fadnavis made the two announcements at an interactive programme organised by Vidarbha Industries Association (VIA) and Union Chemicals and Fertilisers Ministry here Friday. Union Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers and Coal Hansraj Ahir and Union Surface Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari were also present at the programme. Fadnavis also announced plans to set up a chemical zone in the Konkan belt and a plastic park in Vidarbha.
The CM said, “The Make in Maharashtra programme is getting great response with investment offers of Rs 1 lakh crore in the past six months. The government will also set up a plastic park in Vidarbha to promote development.”
Ahir, while announcing CIPET at Chandrapur, said he would try to bring another CIPET to Nagpur too.
Fadnavis, Ahir and Gadkari also visited the defunct MAPL unit in the Hingna Industrial Estate and announced an aid of Rs 100 crore to revive the unit, which had stopped operations about 10 years ago rendering over 270 people jobless.
