334 new Covid cases in state, MMR & Pune circle report most infections

Maharashtra on Wednesday recorded 334 fresh Covid-19 cases, 54 more than a day before, and one fatality, the health department said in a bulletin.

With the new cases, the state’s Covid-19 tally rose to 81,40,479 and the death toll to 1,48,430. On Tuesday, Maharashtra had recorded 280 cases and one fatality.

Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) and Pune circle are reporting the maximum number of fresh cases. On Wednesday, while MMR reported 155 cases, the figure was 107 in the Pune circle.

Mumbai’s test positivity rate stood at 5.5 per cent on Wednesday. In all, 1,290 people were tested in the city, out which 71 tested positive for Covid-19. There are 361 active cases in Mumbai. While 26 of the patients are in hospital, 10 among them are on oxygen support.

In New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting on Wednesday to review the Covid-19 situation amid a rise in cases in the country, officials said.  WITH PTI
