Ludhiana weightlifter ranked 14 at event in Thailand

City lad Harjot Singh has ranked 14 in the Youth World Weightlifting Championship held at Chaing-mai,Thailand,recently.

City lad Harjot Singh has ranked 14 in the Youth World Weightlifting Championship held at Chaing-mai,Thailand,recently. He participated in 94-kilogram category by beating contestants from 60 countries.

Harjot,who has recently recovered from food poisoning,said,“While preparing for this event,I was taken ill and lost four kilograms. So,I could not perform up to my level. This experience has made me more determined and I have decided to do my best in the Asian championship to be held at Pune in November.”

This MBA aspirant gets rigorous training from his father Hardeep Singh,who is an international-level weightlifter. “I have changed some exercises as well as my training schedule. The hours for training have also been extended.”

After winning gold medal in National School Games consecutively for two years in 105-kg category,he has also qualified for the Mini Olympics.” His aim is to win gold medal in the Olympics.
