A Kanpur youth was arrested on Saturday for allegedly lodging a 29-year-old woman from Philippines at his Vishnupuri colony residence here, without registering her details with the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU).

The woman,Gigi Ojaraga Richafort, had reportedly been staying with Gautam Ghulati,36,since February.

Booked under Section 14 (6) of The Registration of Foreigners Act,Ghulati was sent to jail in the evening after being produced in court.

Kanpur DIG Prem Prakash said the girl wanted to visit an acquaintance in Delhi, from where she is expected to return to her native country after her visa period in India ends on April 28.

The DIG added that Ghulati did not get the details of his guest registered with the LIU office.

LIU Sub-Inspector C B Singh, who probed the matter and made the arrest, said the woman came in contact with Ghulati on an internet chat site a few months ago and the duo developed intimacy.

She was a teacher in a Myanmar school and Ghulati, employed with a call centre in Delhi, invited her to India, said Singh, adding that Ghulati had proposed Gigi for marriage and had plans of opening a coaching institute in Kanpur with her help.
