Medium transport aircraft An-32 lands on the 3.2-km long airstrip of Purvanchal Expressway inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi in Karwal Kheri, Sultanpur.
PM Modi says, “The government before Yogiji did injustice to people of UP. The manner in which they discriminated in development, the manner in which they did welfare of only their family - people of UP will permanently remove them from the path of the state's development.”
PM Modi hailed the development works in Uttar Pradesh, stating that it will benefit farmers and traders to move their produce faster.
"Country's security is as important as its prosperity. In a short while from now, we will see that how Purvanchal Expressway has now become one more power for the Indian Air Force in cases of emergency. Our fighter plane will land on the expressway shortly," PM Modi said.
"It was also a fact that a vast state like UP was earlier cut off from each other to a great extent. People used to go to different parts but were worried due to lack of connectivity with each other," PM Modi said.
"For previous chief ministers, development was limited to where they had their homes. However, Purvanchal Expressway is bridging this gap in UP today, connecting UP with each other," he added.
The Purvanchal Expressway will benefit the people of Bihar as it will make it easier to travel between Bihar and Delhi, PM Modi said.
The expressway will connect Lucknow to cities where development is yet to come. It will become a medium to bring lakhs and crores of development works, he added.
"Seeing the situation in UP 7-8 years ago, I used to wonder what some people are punishing UP for," PM Modi said.
"The poor should get pucca houses, the poor should have toilets, women should not have to go out to defecate in the open, everyone should have electricity in their homes, there were many such works which needed to be done here. But I am deeply pained that the then government in UP did not support me," he added.
"This is the expressway to the state’s development and will show the way to a new Uttar Pradesh," PM Modi said. "This expressway is a reflection of modern facilities in UP. This expressway is the expressway of the strong will power of UP. This expressway is a living proof of the accomplishment of resolutions in UP," he added.
For the all-round development of the country, the balanced development of the country is equally important. Some areas marching ahead in the race of development and some areas lagging decades behind isn't right for any country, says PM Modi
When I laid the foundation stone of Purvanchal Expressway 3 years back, I had never thought that I will land here on an aircraft one day, said PM Modi.
"Those who have any doubt on capabilities of UP, on capabilities of people of UP should come to Sultanpur today to witness their capability. Such a modern expressway has now come up where it was just a piece of land three-four years back," he added.

In a tweet in Hindi, Uttar Pradesh BJP chief Swatantra Dev Singh said, "Akhilesh-ji is feeling troubled over the speed of the double engine government in UP. Had he been in power, he would have constructed a two-lane expressway, while the money meant for the rest of the four lanes would have filled his coffers." (PTI)
Constructed at an estimated cost of about Rs 22,500 crore, the Purvanchal Expressway is going to give a boost to the economic development of eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh, especially the districts of Lucknow, Barabanki, Amethi, Ayodhya, Sultanpur, Ambedkar Nagar, Azamgarh, Mau and Ghazipur, a statement released by the government said.
