Madhya Pradesh native Satyavrat Ajaria, lodged at Orai District Jail since May this year, died allegedly from a heart attack late Saturday. However, his family has alleged foul play and demanded a probe into the death.
Seven cases, including murder of four persons, were pending against Satyavrat (35). He had also been booked under National Security Act (NSA). Orai Jailor Murti Singh said, “On Saturday evening, Satyavrat complaint of chest pain. Doctors at the jail referred him to district hospital after examining him. During treatment, Satyavrat died.
Doctors said the death occurred due to heart attack.” After his death, jail officials informed the deceased’s family in Peetamgarh district of Madhya Pradesh. They reached the hospital on Sunday afternoon.
“Satyavrat’s postmortem examination was conducted today by a panel of doctors. The body was handed over to his family, who later returned Madhya Pradesh. The postmortem report is awaited,” said Singh.
“Satyavrat was accused of killing four persons, including two children, during a road hold-up incident earlier this year,” he added.
According to a jail official, Satyavrat was arrested by Jhansi police and was initially lodged at the Jhansi District Jail. On May 16, he was shifted to Orai on administrative grounds.
