Two students of a private degree college in Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr were arrested and sent to jail Saturday for trying to molest a fellow girl student and also assaulting the principal and a lecturer when they objected.

The principal of the college lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at a police station in Bulandshahr on Friday claiming that the two students had tried to molest a girl on September 29 and when a lecturer objected, they assaulted him and also shouted slogans of ‘Jai Shri Ram’ inside the class.

“The offended female student had lodged a complaint in this connection with me on September 30 and stopped coming to college following the molestation bid. We verified her complaint and found it to be true after which the two students were warned to keep restraint within the college campus,” said the principal.

On October 5, he said the two students and over two dozen activists of the Hindu Raksha Dal stormed into the college campus and misbehaved with him and other staff.

”They also alleged that the female student had raised pro-Pakistan slogans in the class to which they objected and then she framed them in false charges of molestation. We had expelled the two students on October 5 and also lodged an FIR,” he added.

The police said the two students sensed trouble after being expelled from the college and filed a written complaint at the same police station alleging that the girl had raised pro-Pakistan slogans and when they objected, she charged them with trying to molest her.

“We have investigated both the complaints and found that the charges levelled by the two students were baseless while the principal’s complaint was found to be true following which an FIR under IPC sections 354 (criminal force to any woman, intending to outrage her modesty) and 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) was registered,” Anvita Upadhyay, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Anoopshahr, Bulandshahr, told The Indian Express on the phone.

“Both have been arrested and sent to jail while an investigation is ongoing for the involvement of 15 to 20 others (Hindu outfit activists) in this connection,” added Upadhyay.
