Even after two days of killing of Kunda circle officer Ziaul Haque, the police are yet to conduct search in the village to trace the killers and those who snatched the CO’s service pistol which,it is believed, was used to shoot him on Saturday evening.

Additional Director General (Law & Order) Arun Kumar visited the spot soon after the incident and stayed there till Sunday night while Allahabad zone Inspector General Alok Sharma and Deputy Inspector General range N Ravinder are camping in Pratapgarh.

However, the top officials did not make any move to order a search of the houses in the village to trace the suspects involved in the attack.

When inquired,Kumar said: “Our prime job was to maintain law and order in the area. The mob was angry over the murder of the village head and his brother, which led to the attack on Haque.”

“Senior officers are camping in the district and investigation is going on to probe the reason behind the murder of the village head and the subsequent attack on the CO,” he added.

He said the study of the postmortem examination reports of Haque, village head Nanhe Lal Yadav and his brother Suresh has found that the CO suffered one bullet injury which pierced through his back and punctured his lungs causing his death. The village head had suffered three bullet injuries caused by .38 bore cartridges, while his brother has sustained one bullet injury caused by .12 bore firearm.

The .38 calibre revolver is a prohibited bore and is issued to police only. The ADG,however, said that the police do not carry .38 bore firearms now.

He said that Nanhe’s son was seen firing indiscriminately from his terrace after his father’s death and the bullet fired by him could have caused his uncle Suresh’s death.

Sharma also said that Suresh’s death appeared to have been caused by firing by his own men.

When inquired if the police have seized firearms from Yadav’s house, the ADG said the police are investigating the case and will take care of these facts.
