Man ‘sets himself on fire’ near Assembly in UP

During preliminary inquiry, the police found that Vishwakarma, who had been a tent trader until recently but now makes a living by driving an e-rickshaw, had a financial dispute with the owner of a tent business.

A 40-year-old man allegedly attempted self-immolation near the Vidhan Sabha in the Hazratganj area of Lucknow on Monday, police said. Police said Munna Vishwakarma, suffered around 60 per cent burns and is under treatment at a hospital.

DCP Central (Lucknow), Raveena Tyagi, said the police are making enquiries to determine the motive behind the man’s move.

Vishwakarma, who hails from Saadatganj, reportedly reached the Vidhan Sabha Marg on Monday afternoon, poured a flammable substance on himself and set himself on fire. Police personnel present nearby quickly extinguished the flames and took him to a hospital.
