A four-year-old girl was bludgeoned to death allegedly by a farmer after she plucked a muskmelon from his agriculture field in a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Agra district Tuesday.
A First Information Report (FIR) was lodged by the girl’s father, Subhash Verma, against Hariom Sharma at the Nibohara Police Station after which he was arrested by the police on Tuesday night.
The police said the victim, Khushboo, was repeatedly hit on the head by a pointed stone and was declared ‘brought dead’ by doctors when her family members rushed the bleeding girl to the hospital.
The father lodged the FIR stating that he had gone to Hariom Sharma with his daughter to purchase muskmelons on Tuesday evening. “I brought these home but my daughter did not come with me and I thought she must be playing with other kids of the village. She did not return late in the evening and when we searched for her, we found her lying unconscious. She was hit on the head by a heavy object. We took her to the hospital but she died while on the way,” claimed the father.
“Based on the named FIR we have arrested Hariom Sharma but our investigation is continued and we are collecting evidence to nail the accused in the court,” said Amardeep Lal, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), Fatehabad, Agra.
