Doctors of UP call off strike after High Court’s intervention

The decision was taken after the Lucknow bench of Allahabad HC took suo motu cognizance of the strike.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) of Kanpur chapter decided to call off the five-day long doctors’ strike late on Wednesday night after the Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court took suo motu cognizance of the agitation.

“In honour of the High Court order, we have decided to withdraw our strike as all our demands have been taken care of,” said Dr Ravi Kumar, Secretary, IMA-Kanpur.

Dr Kumar said that though the decision was taken late night, it will be considered that the strike has been taken back from 3 am on Thursday.

“We are in conversation with the national officials of the IMA regarding calling of the the strike and by 10 am tomorrow, we should be in a position to declare the status,” said Dr Ravi Mehra, IMA UP State president, while maintaining that the legal opinion is still being sought and the final decision in the matter is yet to be taken by the national committee of the association.
