Punjab and Sindh Bank,Jalandhar and West Central Railway,Jabalpur defeated NE Railway,Gorakhpur and UP Police respectively to storm into the quarter finals of the 30th All India KD Singh ‘Babu’ Memorial Invitation Prize Money Men’s Hockey Tournament being held at Dhyanchand astro-turf stadium,Lucknow.
The star for the Jalandhar team was Vikramjeet who hit three goals in the first half itself to take the scoreboard read 3-0. In the second half,Parvinder Singh scored two goals and while captain Mandeep Singh scored the sixth goal in 52nd minutes to help the team score reach 6-0. However,in the 64th minute,S Minz scored a lone goal for Gorakhpur and the match ended at 6-1.
In another match,Jabalpur defeated UP Police 3-2. While Akram Iqbal of West Central hit the first goal in the 24th minute,Shashikant Yadav from the opposite team hit one in 37th minute to nuetralise the score line at 1-1. The lead went again in favour of West Central when RP Singh scored another goal in the 41st minute. A little later,UP Police equaled the score at 2-2 with the help of a brilliant goal by Manish Gupta. However,RP Singh struck again in the final minutes to help West Central register a thrilling 3-2 win over UP Police.
Sunday’s Fixtures: SAI Lucknow vs CRPF,Delhi (at 10.00 am); NCR,Allahabad vs Sports Hostel,UP (11:30): Army XI vs Punjab and Sindh Bank (1:00 pm) Indian Oil vs West Central Railway,Jabalpur (at 2.30 pm).
