A Day after a female chimpanzee died at the Alipore Zoological Gardens, the zoo staff has now come under the scanner.

According to sources,a few days before the 22-year-old chimpanzee died, the zoo staff had tranquilised the chimpanzee for treatment. The chimpanzee, which was in the zoo for the last 13 years, had injuries on its back, which were inflicted by another male chimpanzee in the zoo.

After tranquillising her in the cage on Thursday, the authorities left the cage open and left the spot. Thereafter, the chimpanzee came out of the cage and climbed a tree. It was reported that the chimpanzee fell from a height of 15-20 feet.

It is also being claimed that the chimpanzee was under the effect of the tranquillisers.

The zoo authorities have confirmed that the death of the animal occurred due to “internal head injuries” which it received after the fall.
