The Shahi Imam of Delhi has termed the passage of Women’s Reservation Bill in the Rajya Sabha as the result of a conspiracy by several political parties, including the Congress,to curtail Muslim representation in Parliament and state legislatures.
“Introduction and passage of Women’s Reservation Bill in Rajya Sabha was the outcome of a conspiracy hatched by Congress,BJP and the Left aiming to minimize Muslim representation in Parliament and state legislatures,” the Imam told reporters here on Monday
Asking Muslim women to bear this in mind,he said they should come forward and join the political arena while remaining behind veils and honouring the limits prescribed by Shariat (Islamic laws).
He said the ruling Congress at the Centre had given ample evidence of its apathy towards the largest minority of the country by “doing nothing” to implement the Sachar committee’s recommendations. He also blamed the Samajwadi Party for the “pitiable conditions” of Muslims.
Commenting on the communal clashes in Bareilly recently, the Shahi Imam held the UP administration responsible for the trouble.
He,however, advised religious leaders of both the communities to come forward and and launch a joint campaign so that Bareilly-like unfortunate incidents did not occur anywhere in the country in future.
