A young woman bank officer in Noida allegedly died by suicide at her house in Ghaziabad on Friday over workplace harrasment, the police said.
In her purported suicide note, Shivani Tyagi, 27, who was working as a relationship manager at the corporate office of Axis Bank in Noida’s Sector 128, alleged that six of her colleagues had been harrassing her for the last several months, including use of derogatory remarks such as ‘banadariya’ and ‘divorcee’.
The police said that Tyagi, who allegedly consumed poison was rushed to the MMG District Hospital, Ghaziabad, and was later referred to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital in Delhi where she died during treatment.
Ravi Kumar Singh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Nandgram, said the CCTV footage has been checked and the statements of her colleagues have been recorded. “We have sent the suicide note to handwriting experts to ascertain whether it was written by her, the reports are expected soon,” the officer said.
The brother of the deceased, Gaurav Tyagi, in his complaint to the police alleged that his younger sister was physically and mentally assaulted by the staff and her colleagues that forced her to kill herself.
Dharam Pal Singh, Station House Officer, Nandgram, told The Indian Express that the case is being investigated on a priority basis.
The police have registered a case at the Nandgram police station on July 14 under Section 108 (abetment of suicide) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
