Uttar Pradesh police officer dies in East Delhi road accident

A sub-inspector with the Uttar Pradesh Police died after being hit by an unidentified vehicle at the Telco T point Flyover in East Delhi on Friday night, the police said.

The deceased officer has been identified as Pradeep Kumar, 47, who was posted at the Traffic Circle in Ghaziabad, the police said.

According to the police, Kumar was riding his Hero Splendor motorcycle towards NH 24 from Anand Vihar ISBT when the accident occurred.

Despite efforts to save him, Kumar died on the spot, said an officer, adding that the police got the information about the accident at 10.35 pm.

The police have found a broken piece of a yellow number plate (indicating commercial vehicle with a partial number at the accident site, which they believe belongs to the offending vehicle.

The police have registered a hit-and-run case and efforts are underway to trace the vehicle, the officer added.
