Showers in evening rush hour trigger snarls across Capital

Only 0.6 mm rain was recorded between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm.

Heavy downpour after 5.30 pm left vehicles stranded during the evening peak hours. The Met department said the city had received 26 mm rainfall in the 24 hours till 8.30 pm.

The city witnessed massive traffic jams at several important junctions including ITO,Mehrauli,Laxmi Nagar,Connaught Place,Ring Road,Ashram and Dwarka among other places.

Reports of massive waterlogging leading to long snarls came from Lajpat Nagar,Ashram,Nizamuddin,Aurobindo Marg,Yusuf Sarai,Dhaula Kuan,Lado Sarai,Africa Avenue,IIT,Qutub Minar and Pul Prahladpur.

The maximum temperature recorded on Monday was 34.5 degrees Celsius,a notch above normal,while the minimum was at 26 degrees,normal for this time of the year.

Humidity levels hovered between 65 and 97 per cent.

The weatherman has predicted a partly cloudy sky for Tuesday with light rain or thundershowers in some areas,with the temperature likely to oscillate between 25 and 32 degrees Celsius.
