A Class V student of a public school,Ashish Maurya, died of swine flu on Tuesday, making it the first swine flu death in the district. Much to the surprise of the district administration, however, the Health department authorities responsible for dealing with swine flu cases are not even aware of the death.
Noida city magistrate Raja Ram taking suo motu cognizance of the news doing the rounds that the student had died at home, has issued notices to the district health authorities asking them to question the authorities of the students school.
I had called up the chief medical superintendent and the chief medical officer of the district hospital at Noida, but neither of them knew of the death. They said they had heard about it,but could not confirm as the school has been shut for sometime. I had asked them to call up the school authorities and issue notices if they refuse to talk about the issue, said the city magistrate.
Senior officials, meanwhile, said all CBSE schools in the district are open and the winter break has not yet started. The school in question is shut, which raises suspicions.
Though Ive come to know that the student died at home, school authorities should have informed the administration, said Ram.
The official has again advised Health officials to issue advisories and spread awareness against swine flu at schools in the district.
The drive should be an ongoing process. The data of swine flu patients should be maintained,no matter which hospital they are admitted to. I have told them to submit a conclusive report on the death, the official added.
Till now,125 cases of swine flu were reported in the district.
