Out of a total of 230 safai karamcharis (sanitation workers) working in urban villages of the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) area, around 30 percent of them could not be traced during a recent inspection.
Following the irregularity, YEIDA cancelled the tender of the company Armanent Security Services that was employed to maintain cleanliness in the villages.
Officials said that the company had stated in the records that a total of 230 safai karamcharis are working in the area. “But when we investigated, around 30 percent of the workers were not available. They could not be traced, but the company was receiving salary in the name of these karamcharis. We have blacklisted the company also,” said an official.
“Due to this irregularity, the tender of the company Armament Security Services has been cancelled. Along with this, the salary has been stopped,” he added. However, some of the safai karamcharis Tuesday reached the authority office, demanding their salary and reinstatement on the work.
Officials also said that the authority has proposed to increase the number of safai karamcharis to 530 in urban villages. “This matter will be taken up in the 78th Board meeting, which is scheduled to be held today. If approved, we will issue a fresh tender and 300 safai karamcharis will be increased. Action will be taken against the official of the authority who was involved in selecting the dubious company for cleaning works,” added the official.
