Former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, who is lodged in Tihar jail in the Delhi excise policy case, has written a letter to people in his Patparganj constituency, promising to meet them soon.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) shared the letter, written in Hindi, on X.
“Just like everyone fought for Independence, similarly we are fighting for good education and schools. The dream of Independence came true even after the British dictatorship. Similarly, one day every child will get proper and good education,” Sisodia, who also held the education portfolio, said.
“I am happy that the education revolution took place in Delhi under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal. Now I feel relieved after reading the news of the Punjab education revolution. My love for you grew even more after being in jail,” Sisodia added.
AAP has released the letter dated March 15 at a time when Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is in jail and the party’s Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh has been released from Tihar jail on bail.
Sisodia thanked people for caring for his ailing wife. He also invoked Mahatma Gandhi and Nelson Mandela to emphasise the importance of education for national development.
“See you soon, outside,” he said, ending the letter.
A Delhi court last month had extended Sisodia’s judicial custody in a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) case related to the now-scrapped Delhi liquor excise policy. Sisodia has been accused of extra-procedural interference in framing the excise policy, tweaking it for the benefit of particular liquor entities and causing a loss of several hundred crores to the state exchequer. Sisodia was also arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and named a “key conspirator” in the case.
Reacting to Sisodia’s letter, Delhi BJP Secretary Harish Khurana and Media Head Praveen Shankar Kapoor termed it an “effort to prove his political existence.”
For the last two weeks, they alleged, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had become “a letter-sending hero from custody” and after his release on bail earlier this week, AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh was “emerging as the poster boy of AAP.”
“It seems this has prompted Manish Sisodia to send out a letter to try get his share of news time…,” they alleged.
