Man attacked with ‘kirpan’ in Delhi’s Jantar Mantar over parking dispute, 2 held

The Delhi Police have arrested two individuals who allegedly attacked a 40-year-old man with a ‘kirpan’ over a parking dispute at Jantar Mantar on August 6, officials said on Saturday. A third accused remains absconding, an officer said.

The arrested have been identified as as Gaurav Sharma, a resident of Shahdara, and Hardeep Singh, a resident of Punjab.

According to the police, the three accused asked the victim, Rakesh, to move his vehicle off the road, which escalated the situation into a heated argument. The three men assaulted Rakesh with the small dagger, leaving him injured.

Rakesh was then rushed to the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital. His condition is said to be stable, the police said.

The police arrested Sharma and Singh on the day of the incident based on CCTV footage, the officer said.

The police have registered a case at the Parliament Street police station and an investigation is on.
