Delhi reports 1,634 fresh cases of Covid-19, 3 deaths

Amid the surge in daily cases, authorities Sunday recorded four containment zones which were formed in Covid-affected areas in the city.

Delhi recorded 1,634 fresh cases of Covid-19 Sunday and the positivity rate stood at 29.68 per cent. According to the health bulletin, the new infections were detected after 5,505 tests were conducted the previous day.

Three deaths were recorded where the primary cause was Covid-19 in one death and in one it was found to be incidental. The reason behind the third death could not be known as the case sheet was awaited from the hospital.

On Saturday, Delhi’s daily Covid positivity rate breached the 30 per cent mark, which was the highest in the last 15 months, when 1,396 cases were recorded. The city had recorded a positivity rate of 30.6 per cent on January 14 last year.

Over the last fortnight, the national capital has seen a spurt in cases of Covid-19. While on Friday the government did not issue a bulletin, the city reported 1,527 cases with a positivity rate of 27.7 per cent and two deaths on Thursday. On Wednesday, at 1,149 cases, the daily tally crossed the 1,000-mark for the first time in more than seven months.

In the last seven days, 24 fatalities have been recorded in Delhi linked to Covid-19.

Amid the surge in daily cases, authorities Sunday recorded four containment zones which were formed in Covid-affected areas in the city. Containment zones are formed to prevent infections from getting established in the community and also to prevent their spread outside the said area. It intends to break the cycle of transmission.

State health department officials were not unavailable to comment about areas where the zones have been formed.

Doctors and officials said since the symptoms have been mild including fever, cough, and cold, patients have been isolating in their homes and 3,393 were in home isolation Sunday.

As many as 270 patients were hospitalised due to Covid out of which 105 were in ICU and 83 were on oxygen support and 13 patients were on ventilators. Currently, there are 5,297 active cases of Covid-19 in Delhi.

Doctors have said while cases are on the rise, wearing masks can be good only for those who are at high risk and comorbid patients.
