Landslide Report
While West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is touring the landslide-affected parts of the state, her one-time lieutenant Mukul Roy — who remains a Rajya Sabha MP but has been sidelined in the party after the Saradha scam — has started collating his own report on the catastrophe. Roy is preparing the report along with a list of affected people that he plans to send soon to Home Minister Rajnath Singh asking the Centre to announce appropriate compensation.

Modi Posters
STAFF IN the BJP headquarters were amused to see an advertisement poster on the building walls this week. The poster, which appeared to be an advertisement for ‘TODAYS Pens’, had “ I LOVE MODI — inspired by our Hon’ble Prime Minister”. The poster also said, “I am proud to be an Indian” and “Aap hamare desh ke bhavishya hein (you are the country’s future)”. It also praised Modi as “patriot, fearless, hard worker and honest”. The staff at the BJP office had no idea about how the poster came up, but they didn’t remove it.

A Room, Finally
THE upcoming monsoon session of Parliament will certainly be special for Trinamool. Overjoyed that after six years it finally has a room on the ground floor of Parliament, both Rajya Sabha leader Derek O’Brien and Lok Sabha leader Sudip Bandopadhyay have inspected the room. The party had originally been allotted a room near the Prime Minister’s office but there were too many security restrictions. It will now have its office in room number 22B.

Tweeting Thanks
ISRAEL AMBASSADOR Daniel Carmon was happy at the Indian abstention at the United Nations Human Rights Council vote condemning Israel last week. Within hours of the vote, the hashtag #IndiawithIsrael started trending in India. Carmon too took to Twitter to thank the Indians as he said that India did not support yet another anti-Israel bashing resolution. “We thank them,” he tweeted.

Punjab Tour
EUROPEAN UNION envoy to India Joao Cravinho spent a few days last week in Amritsar. He went to the Golden Temple, Wagah and Jallianwala Bagh, and was moved by the experience. He has since been talking about the early morning prayers at the Golden Temple and the huge kitchen, which serves “langar” for thousands of visitors and devotees alike.
