A day after a 32-year-old man allegedly hung his three children by a pole at a cattle shed outside his residence at Nekpur village in Faridabad, and then died by suicide, the case has been transferred to the Sector 48 Crime Branch, police said on Saturday. While two of the children died, one is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
The incident allegedly took place between 4 am and 4.30 am on Friday, and the bodies were discovered around 6.30 am.
Police identified the deceased as Karmaveer and his two daughters, aged 6 and 12. His 8-year-old son, who was found alive, is in a critical condition, said police.
Karmaveer’s wife, Chanchal, was allegedly not at home when the incident took place. “She had left home a week ago to stay with her sister’s husband following marital disputes spanning over a year,” said an officer.
In a purported video Karmaveer shared on WhatsApp with his friends minutes before he killed the children, he is seen accusing Chanchal, her mother, sister and aunt, of subjecting him to mental harassment, extortion, and attempting to involve him in illicit activities. “An FIR has been registered against Chanchal, her mother, sister, aunt, and three other in-laws for abetment to suicide and extortion, based on a complaint filed by Karmaveer’s uncle. We are probing whether the children were sedated and awaiting detailed postmortem and forensic reports,” a Faridabad Police spokesperson said.
“Chanchal’s statement was recorded on Friday night, and the matter has been transferred to the Crime Branch for an impartial probe,” the officer added.
