In his mission to ease the pressure from the existing police stations in the Capital,outgoing Delhi Police Commissioner Y S Dadwal,created nine more police stations in different Delhi districts on Sunday,taking the total number of police stations to 185 in the city.
When Dadwal joined three years ago at the the top post,there were 122 police stations in Delhi,most of them short-staffed. In three years,over 20,000 new police officers have joined the Delhi Police,taking the force strength to 85,000. Subsequently,26,000 officers have got promotions during Dadwals tenure of three years and three months and 122 young SHOs have been posted in the Capitals police stations.
Nine new police stations have been created at GTB Nagar,Madhuban,Ghazipur,Dwarka (South),Madipur,Mundka,Sagarpur,Haridas Nagar and Town Hall. Officials said the appointments of the SHOs at the newly created police stations have not been decided by Dadwal himself. The newly appointed Police Commissioner B K Gupta,who is joining the department on Wednesday,will look after appointments now, said an officer.
A farewell is being organised for Dadwal on Tuesday. The handing over ceremony will take place on Wednesday. Dadwal will retire in October 2011.
