After a faulty communication link led to stoppage of Metro trains on the Yellow line on Tuesday,a preliminary inquiry report was submitted to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) managing director Mangu Singh on Friday.
A three-member committee comprising ED (Safety),ED (Rolling Stock) and GM (Operations) prepared the report.
In case there is a repeat of Tuesdays incident,DMRC now has an emergency evacuation plan in place. Commuters will be evacuated first, within 10 minutes.
On Tuesday, passengers were stranded in Metro trains for close to an hour.
Some passengers complained of negligible lights and ventilation. Passengers forced open the emergency doors without authorisation and walked on the tracks.
In case passengers are stranded in the underground tunnel for more than 10 minutes, the DMRC operational managers have been asked to initiate evacuation, Anuj Dayal,Executive Director (Communications),said.
Engineers have been asked to examine the feasibility of a backup system so that lights and ventilation work during an emergency.
This failure happened for the first time and is being investigated by a team of engineers from DMRC and the manufacturer to avoid recurrence, Dayal said.
Authorities plan to provide adequate lighting and ventilation facilities inside the tunnel.
Around 1,800 passengers were onboard the stranded trains.
