Tamil Nadu: DMDK leader Captain Vijayakanth’s mortal remains to be kept at Island Grounds Friday; funeral to be held at Koyambedu party office

Since Thursday morning, MDMK workers, Vijayakanth’s fans, and the general public thronged the Koyambedu party office to catch a final glimpse of their beloved leader.

Actor and Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) Chief Captain Vijayakanth passed away after a prolonged illness on Thursday morning.

According to a statement issued by the DMDK, the yesteryear actor passed away at 6.10 am. His body was shifted from a private hospital in Chennai to his party office at Koyambedu later in the day.

Since Thursday morning, MDMK workers, Vijayakanth’s fans, and the general public thronged the Koyambedu party office to catch a final glimpse of their beloved leader.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, and other political leaders as well as film personalities extended their condolences on the passing of the DMDK leader.

The DMDK said the final rights of Vijayakanth will be performed at the party headquarters on Friday at 4:45 pm.

The party further said that the mortal remains of Vijayakanth will be kept at the Island Grounds in Chennai from 6 am to 1 pm on Friday for the public to pay their last respects. The final procession will begin from the Island Grounds and reach the DMDK Koyambedu office via Poonamallee Road.

CM Stalin announced that the government would accord full state honours for Vijayakanth’s funeral.
