Attempting to evade payment of debt,a woman from Jind district who poisoned her two sons and attempted suicide in the Rohtak police station has not only lost her one son,but is also going to spend rest of her life in jail on charges of murder.
The tragic tale of the family began last year, when Alkas husband Ashish Jain entered into a property dispute with his maternal cousins.
Ashish, who lost both his parents at an early age,was raised by his maternal grandfather. He married Alka and started his own business, but suffered losses. Following this,he started taking loans to start afresh. The loan that he took was of Rs 11 lakh from Rohtak resident Ajay Ahlawat. He purchased computers and started a computer centre Paras Computers in Jind. But still,Ashish failed to break even with his daily expenses.
As the debt kept on accumulating and people started complaining to the police against Ashish, the couple decided to flee in November along with their children. For days, they kept taking refuge in various inns in Haryana and Rajasthan. Finally,Ashish was arrested. In retaliation,Alka poisoned both her sons and attempted suicide by consuming celphose tablets in the police station at Rohtak.
In her statement, recorded in presence of the judicial magistrate,Alka said that she committed the gory act because she had no means to feed her sons. She added that the police had not put any pressure on her or committed any atrocities against them.
While Lakshya has been cremated by her relatives,Alka is due to be discharged from the hospital in a couple of days.
Rohtak Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) Sumit Kumar said,It is an unfortunate and tragic case, but the law has to take its own course. She is out of danger now. Once she is discharged from the hospital,we will examine the case. In case she is found to have played a role in murdering her son,she will have to face murder charges. Otherwise also, she will face charges of attempting suicide.
A judicial probe is already being conducted into the incident. The inquiry, being conducted by Judicial Magistrate Rahul Bishnoi, will also ascertain the facts pertaining to the case registered against Ashish.
