The education department on Wednesday organised a function at the Hotel Shivalik View to felicitate all the principals,heads and students for their out standing performance in class X and XII Board examinations for the session 2008-09. The function,chaired by UT Administrator,General Dr. S F Rodrigues,also saw the release of a brochure on the occasion to commemorate the event.

Principals of two schools Government Model Senior Secondary School,Sector 16 and Government Senior Secondary School,Behlana,Ram Kumar Sharma and Ramesh were awarded with a trophy,medal and certificate for their achievement of securing the over all highest pass percentage among government schools in the model and non model category respectively. 14 other principals were also awarded with a medal and certificate each for outstanding results in their respective schools.

Two toppers of class XII Sahil Arora from the Commerce stream and Sunita Devi from vocational stream were awarded with a laptop each for their excellent performance in the Board examinations. Around 29 students who had secured 90 per cent and above in the model school category and 80 per cent and above in the non model category were awarded with cash prizes and certificates.

In his address,Ram Niwas Home Secretary,UT Administration apprised the audience with the social initiatives taken by the department including plantation drive in various schools to preserve the environment,a comprehensive drug de-addiction programme and an anti polythene campaign.

Speaking on the occasion,the Governor asked the department to think big and work towards enhancing the standard of education. He also asked the department to enhance the nutritional quotient of the mid-day meal to meet the health needs of the children.
