Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal Sunday instructed officers of the Municipal Councils and the Rural Development & Panchayat Department to speed up dewatering operations in flood-affected areas to provide immediate relief to residents.

Work on cleaning the Mubarkpur causeway on the Ghaggar river in Derabassi, which is a vital link to Zirakpur, is progressing at full pace. Teams from the local Municipal Council are engaged in clearing debris and simultaneously repairing approach roads to ensure smooth connectivity. Similarly, efforts are underway to drain water accumulated between Bhagat Majra and Palhedi villages and repair work on the portion of Gochar–Mirzapur road eroded by heavy rain is underway. The drainage and PWD departments are carrying out the restoration work. The district administration has deployed the required machinery and manpower to ensure fast restoration of normalcy in the affected areas.

The DC, after reviewing the ongoing works, emphasised timely restoration of road connectivity across the district. She directed officials to repair potholes and damaged stretches immediately to facilitate smooth vehicular movement and reduce inconvenience to the public.

Mittal instructed officers to ensure government school premises are cleaned on priority so that normal teaching activities can resume from Tuesday onwards.

She also pointed out that assessment of damage to crops, livestock, and houses is already underway. “I assure the affected families that compensation will be distributed at the earliest. The administration is fully committed to addressing all post-flood challenges on priority and will continue constant monitoring until the situation returns to normal,” the DC said.
