Two people drowned in the swollen Buddha Dariya stream of Ludhiana near Dhanansu village on Wednesday. At least 38 people have lost their lives in Punjab in flood-related incidents in the past few days.

Inspector Davinder Singh, SHO of the Meharban police station, said that a group of six people had gone to take a bath in Buddha Dariya and that two of them had been swept away.

He said that the drowned duo were identified as Saif Mohammad (18) and Mohammad Mohataram (21), both from Gurmail Park of the Tibba area.

He added that four others who had gone along were safe. They had tried to save the duo but in vain.

Police recovered both the bodies, initiated inquest proceedings under section 174 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, and sent them for an autopsy.
