A heart-wrenching tragedy struck a family in Sangowal village of Ludhiana district, claiming the lives of two brothers.
Tejwant Singh, 20, and Manjot Singh, 19, died on the spot after getting electrocuted while descending stairs covered with rainwater on Sunday.
The brothers were attempting to cover their flooded house terrace with a tarpaulin sheet when the incident occurred.
Local MLA Jiwan Singh Sangowal described the family as inconsolable, stating that the roof of their house had been leaking due to incessant rainfall.
According to MLA Sangowal, the parents are devastated after losing their two sons. While their father works as MNREGA worker earning daily wages, mother earns livelihood working as a domestic help in some houses.
The couple is now left with their daughter. The MLA assured that he and the villagers would provide all possible help to the family, including organizing the bhog ceremony for the deceased brothers.
