Patil lays foundation for new building at PEC University

The building to be constructed by the UT engineering department is expected to be completed by May 2015,which is the expected time for the completion of the project.

Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Shivraj Singh Patil on Monday laid the foundation stone of the new administration block of PEC University of Technology,Sector-12. The rough cost estimate prepared by the UT Engineering Department for the building has been fixed at Rs 13.97 crore.

The building to be constructed by the UT engineering department is expected to be completed by May 2015,which is the expected time for the completion of the project.

Speaking on the occasion,Patil emphasised on the vast opportunities which the institute has in terms of land,which can be adequately used for expansion purposes.

“Apart from having a new building,we should also focus on the technology which is being used to construct these structures. We should learn from some developed countries on how we can safeguard our future by proper utilising the available resources with the use of technology,” said Patil as he emphasised on making efficient use of solar energy.

Secretary,Technical Education V K Singh,who was also present on the occasion,briefed about the new administration block’s class rooms and laboratories. The new block is planned to have facilities including lecture halls,tutorial rooms,seminar rooms,laboratories,faculty offices and other amenities. Singh also discussed about the new undergraduate courses which will be introduced in the institute’s curriculum for which new classrooms are required.
