A community kitchen,initiated by Chandigarh based NGO-Samarpan Foundation and CSR Works,was inaugurated on Wednesday at Lions Club,Ramdarbar.
Chandigarh Mayor Subhash Chawla inaugurated the community kitchen,wherein,150 children of the labour-class families between 6-11 years of age will be provided one full meal from Monday to Saturday here. CSR works,which is a social enterprise,would also be assisting them in the execution of this project by supplying them ration and funds for the kitchen.
As the students are already provided midday meal at schools,the community kitchen would provide them food in the evening,along with other snacks.
Speaking on the occasion,Mayor Chawla said,The students here belong to the labour class,where they dont get adequate quantity of food. It is a very great initiative by the NGO which would prove beneficial for the students.
However,the founder of the NGO said,We are not only going to provide them food in the evening.
The main motive is to make them learn certain skills and also help them to become independent.
The NGO has been already providing meals to around 300 children at Nada Sahib. It also conducts workshops for jail inmates in Burail as well as in Kapurthala jail. In addition to this,they also run creche facilities in Kapurthala jail along with a pathological laboratory.
The NGO plans to provide creche facilities across Punjab.
