A heated argument among three friends drinking together at Sky Lark Market on the Kharar-Landran Road in Mohali turned violent late Friday night, leaving one man dead and another critically injured. Police have named a local lawyer, identified as Mukand Bhaskar, as the prime accused.
The deceased has been identified as Harvinder Singh, a property dealer and resident of Sky Lark Enclave, while the injured man has been named as Lucky, who remains in a critical condition at Civil Hospital, Phase 6, Mohali.
Police said the three men had been drinking at the market from around 9 pm. “Around the early hours of Saturday, an argument broke out between them, during which accused Mukand Bhaskar allegedly attacked Harvinder with a knife. When Lucky tried to intervene, he too was stabbed multiple times,” a senior police officer said.
The accused fled the scene immediately after the incident. Police sealed off the area and summoned the forensic team, which collected vital evidence from the spot. Nearby CCTV footage was also reviewed, leading to Bhaskar being tracked down and taken into custody.
Harvinder’s wife Monika, 31, an assistant professor at Chandigarh University, lodged a statement with the police, alleging that Bhaskar had ongoing disputes with her husband. “Two days ago, Harvinder told me that his friend Lucky often argued with Bhaskar, who is a lawyer by profession. Bhaskar had even threatened him in the past,” she stated.
Monika recounted that her husband had left home around 8 pm on September 12 to buy a school bag for their son and had promised to return soon. “At 10 pm, he called me saying he was at his friend Lucky’s house in Shivalik City. Later at 2 am, when I called again, I could hear Lucky and another person speaking in the background. By 5 am, his phone was switched off,” she told police.
She added that at 7:20 am, an unknown person answered Lucky’s phone and asked her to come to the market outside Sky Lark’s main gate. “When we reached there, I found my husband lying in a pool of blood. He was already dead,” Monika said.
Police have registered a case under Sections 103 and 109 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) against Bhaskar. Sub-Inspector Sukhwinder Singh of City Kharar police station confirmed that special reports had been sent to senior officers and the area magistrate.
DSP (Kharar) Karn Sandhu said that the other injured youth is not in a position to give any statement. “On the basis of the deceased’s wife’s complaint, a case of murder has been registered,” Sandhu added.
