A Ludhiana unit of the anti-drug Special Task Force (STF) arrested a woman reportedly with 258 gm heroin, 285 gm opium, and Rs 6.26 lakh in cash, on Wednesday. She was declared a proclaimed offender by the court.
Police said that the woman was hiding in the house of her father-in-law on Tibba road. She was identified as Alisha Chopra alias Pooja, 28. Her husband Akash Chopra was also arrested by STF in June last year for drug peddling. The police have booked her brother-in-law (husband’s brother) Ankush Chopra alias Shalu.
DSP Davinder Chaudhary said that an STF team led by Inspector Harbans Singh arrested the woman from Gurmail Park following a tip-off. She was on her way to deliver a consignment of drugs.
Police recovered Rs 6.26 lakh in cash from the almirah in the house of her father-in-law, said DSP.
Inspector Harbans said that an FIR under sections 18, 21 of the NDPS Act has been lodged against the accused at STF Mohali police station. During questioning, the woman told STF that after the arrest of her husband, she had fled to Nepal and returned to Ludhiana a few days ago.
STF had arrested Akash Chopra on June 22 in 2022 for drug peddling and recovered an illegal weapon from his house with six bullets. 2.05 kg heroin, a fleet of eight cars, including Toyota Fortuner and Mercedes and three bikes.
