In a rare gesture, a horse owner will be organising a bhog ceremony to celebrate his love for his equine that died in Khasi Kalan village in Ludhiana on October 8.
Charanjit Singh Mainta is organising the final prayers and bhog on October 15 at Gurdwara Parmeshwar Dwar in Khasi Kalan village from 12 noon to 1 pm to mourn the death of Fateh Jung, the three-year-old colt.
“This colt was my third son. I have two sons, who are in Australia. Fateh Jung was my third son. I had brought it up with desi ghee and milk,” said Mainta, who was inconsolable on the day Fateh Jung died.
“Whatever I ate was fed to Fateh. I believe the soul will come back to us. Soon after Fateh breathed its last, I was blessed with a grandson in Australia. I have named him Fateh Jung,” said Mainta, a farmer.
“We buried the colt in our backyard by digging a 20-foot deep ditch. My third son is lying there,“ he said.
Fateh Jung, of the ‘majhuke’ bloodline, had become a rage on social media after it was introduced at the Jagraon horse fair four weeks ago for stud service. “We had introduced him at the fair. Within four weeks, he died. People were wiping my tears. At least 500 attended the burial,“ Mainta noted.
According to Mainta, Fateh Jung was a head-turner stallion. “Had he lived longer, he would have won many competitions. I was just preparing. Raising horses is my hobby. I just love these creatures. Do not call them animals. They are more than my sons to me,“ Mainta asserted.
