Referring to Chandigarh Mayor as “Rondu Ram,” Chandigarh Member of Parliament Kirron Kher responded to the Mayor’s remarks by expressing her distress over his use of the term “achhut,” stating that she embraces women from all walks of life, regardless of their background.

A day after Chandigarh Mayor Kuldeep Kumar accused Kirron Kher of anitizing the microphone after he spoke and making him feel like an ‘untouchable’, Kher held a press conference on Thursday alongside Dalit members and former Mayor Rajesh Kalia, with BJP Chief Jatinder Malhotra also in attendance.

Addressing Mayor Kuldeep Kumar’s accusations, Kher explained, “You all know I underwent cancer treatment for a year… I managed to overcome it by god’s grace, but the medications continue, and my immunity remains low. Doctors advise me to take precautions, although due to my public life, wearing a mask constantly isn’t feasible. However, my staff follows general precautions when I’m out.”

She recounted how Mayor Kuldeep was casually chatting with her on that day and how they both had refreshments together. “Kuldeep was chatting comfortably that day… then suddenly, he spewed venom. Moreover, after he spoke, the announcer took over. It’s standard procedure for my PSO to sanitize it afterward… His use of the term ‘achhut’ pains me deeply… I don’t even entertain such beliefs. I warmly greet every woman and child. It’s incomprehensible to me.I eat and drink with ease alongside everyone, and he says this,” she added.

Kher recalled a meeting with Kuldeep at a temple in 2014 and having langarwith him and Kalia at Dadumajra. She mentioned speaking to Dalit members before the press and asked if they ever felt discriminated against.

“When I didn’t practice untouchability then… how did I suddenly start feeling it  now… this deeply troubles me, something that has never crossed my mind. I’ve never asked anyone about their caste. He deserves a new name, he’s just a crybaby, always whining. If my staff sprayed the mic, he started crying. Why doesn’t he focus on working for Chandigarh instead?” she remarked.

Kirron Kher further said, “He (the mayor ) keeps insisting he’s a child. Where’s the child in him, he’s 47 years old. He’s the Mayor of the city.”

Kher also criticized the AAP, labeling them as “liars.” “I find Bhagwant Mann very entertaining, and I respect him, but the theatrics of AAP supremoArvind Kejriwal, I have no respect for that. I never claimed that Anupamand I were the first to support his Lokpal bill during his agitation. Iarranged his meetings with Arun Jaitley, Advani ji… it was me,” she clarified.

Chandigarh BJP Chief Jatinder Malhotra expressed concern that outsiders coming to Chandigarh are disrupting the city’s environment and attempting to disturb  law and order.

Special house meeting today

The Mayor has called for a special house meeting on March 15 to discuss various issues, including the financial aspects of 24*7 water supply. BJP has raised objections, citing a lack of a 72-hour notice before convening the meeting.
