The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday announced its first list of 67 candidates for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has been fielded from Ladwa assembly constituency, while former state home minister Anil Vij will contest from Ambala Cantt.
Earlier in the day, Jannayak Janta Party-Azad Samaj Party released the first list of 19 party candidates for the upcoming Haryana Assembly polls, fielding former Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala from Uchana Kalan, from where he is a sitting MLA.
While 15 candidates in the list are from the JJP, four are from the Chandra Shekhar Azad-led ASP. The JJP has fielded Dushyant’s brother and senior leader Digvijay Singh Chautala in Dabwali seat.
Haryana will vote on October 5, as per the new schedule announced by the Election Commission following requests from the BJP, the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and the All-India Bishnoi Mahasabha to postpone the polls earlier scheduled for October 1.
According to EC sources, the decision to postpone the Haryana poll date was taken as the electors belonging to the Bishnoi community from three districts (Sirsa, Fatehabad and Hisar) were expected to travel to attend the 300-year-old Asoj Amavasya festival to honour Guru Jambheshwar in Bikaner.
The counting of votes will be held on October 8 along with Jammu and Kashmir.
