Former India captain Rajpal Singh showed exemplary skills to guide Punjab Police to an easy 5-2 win over SGGS Club in the 43rd SN Vohra’s All-India Gurmit Memorial Hockey Tournament being organised by Rock Rover at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium on Tuesday. Rajpal first converted a penalty corner and then scored another second goal to steer the team to an easy win.
Earlier,Punjab Police took the lead in the 11th minute when Simrandeep Singh converted a penalty corner. Three minutes before interval,Rajpal Singh converted a penalty corner to double the team’s lead.
After the resumption,Jagmeet Singh made it 3-0 by sounding the board. However, SGGS Club scored two quick goals to reduce the margin. Gurjinder Singh (46th) and Rajan (48th) were the scorers for SGGS Club. Punjab Police once again asserted their supremacy by scoring twice. Satwinder Singh scored a field goal in the 52nd minute while Rajpal Singh rounded off the winners’ tally in the 68th minute through a field goal.
Meanwhile,Indian Air Force got the better of Ropar Hawks 3-2. Ropar Hawks opened the account through Ranjot in the sixth minute. IAF,however,equalised in the 13th minute through Varinder.
Indian Air Force then took lead in the 18th minute when Davinder converted a penalty corner. Jatinder scored for Indian Air Force with a field goal in the 41st minute. Ropar Hawks were able to reduced the margin through Navjot in the 55th minute.
