Flood-like situation in the Ropar district, as water bodies overflow

The situation is turning grim in the Ropar district of Punjab as all the water bodies including the Satluj river witnessed heavy water flow on Monday. With the non-stop rain, water has entered many villages in the district.

Speaking to The Indian Express, Ropar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vivek Sheel Soni said that many roads have caved in and the entire district has now become vulnerable to floods.

He added that Morinda and Chamkaur Sahib towns in Punjab are facing water logging situations and many roads have caved in due to the continuous rain. The SSP further added that the army was called in on Sunday and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was working to rescue the people trapped in flooded areas.

In Fatehgarh Sahib, the situation was turning worse as the seasonal choe in Sirhind town was overflowing. Fatehgarh Sahib Deputy Commissioner (DC) Parneet Kaur Gill said the areas touching Mohali district reported water logging and Sirhind town also got clogged with rainwater.
