Annual fashion shows by design institutes in the city are increasingly becoming professional in nature and are no longer in-house events that see students model their own creations in an auditorium on campus. Mohali-based International Institute of Fashion Technology (IIFT) chose to present Lakshya 2012,their annual show,in DLF City Centre mall on Friday. As IIFT’s director,Kawaljeet Singh, mentioned, the aim is “to help students showcase their collection to the consumer directly and instill a sense of confidence in them”.

The show was choreographed by Kaushik Ghosh and saw a bevy of models, including foreign faces, present eight collections. The mall’s lobby was turned into a ramp and managed to accommodate large crowds. The creations were mostly traditional and heavy on bling. Interestingly, all collections made space for menswear as well. ‘Bohemian Tamasha’ by final year student Damini Anand stood out for its ready-to-wear saris while her classmate Manpreet Kaur explored the underwater colours in her collection ‘Beneath the Sea’.
