The Panchkula Police have filed a review petition with the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking the dismissal of the order passed by the CBI court earlier for the personal appearance of Dera Sacha Sauda chief,Gurmeet Baba Ram Rahim,on October 5 for recording his statement on the prosecution evidence that was produced against him on rape charges.
The CBI court had earlier sought the personal
appearance of Dera chief on October 5 in an alleged case of rape of two of his disciples at the Dera in Sirsa in 2002. The court had issued the orders after the prosecution evidence in the case was closed.
Deswal said that the review petition has been filed in which it has been sought that video-conferencing be employed for recording his statement. Police had earlier also moved the plea for video-conferencing with the CBI court which, however, rejected the police contention. Police had made out that under Section 313 of the CrPC there is a provision that a person can represent himself or herself through a counsel in the court and a questionnaire can be given to Baba Ram Rahim for his statement on the points that were raised in the court during the recording of the prosecution evidence.
