After absconding JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna announced his plan to appear on Friday before the special investigation team probing sex abuse allegations against him, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara said the Hassan MP would be arrested as soon as he returned to India.

Speaking to reporters at Tumakuru on Monday, Parameshwara said, “He will be arrested, because a warrant has already been issued against him. The warrant came after a blue corner notice, due to which he will definitely have to be arrested. Now, since he has spoken about surrendering, we will have to see how the SIT takes it up.”

The minister, however, welcomed Revanna’s decision to appear before SIT officials.

In a video released on Monday, Revanna said he would appear before the SIT at 10 am on May 31. “I have faith in the court and I am confident of coming out of the false cases,” he said.

The Hassan MP left the country on April 27, a day after Lok Sabha elections were held in southern Karnataka and hours before an FIR alleging sexual assault was registered against him.

Parameshwara also said the BJP-led central government was not cooperating with the police’s efforts to bring the MP back. “The Ministry of External Affairs had said that it would cancel his diplomatic passport. However, there is no response to any of our letters,” he said.
