Karnataka BJP candidate K Sudhakar booked for ‘attempting to bribe’ IAS officer in Rs 4.8 crore unaccounted cash seizure case

Former minister and Chikkaballapur BJP candidate K Sudhakar was on Thursday booked for allegedly asking IAS officer Munish Moudgil to release Rs 4.8 crore cash seized by the Election Commission (EC).

In a complaint, Dasharath V Kumbar, a member of the Static Surveillance Team (SST), said, “Around 11.44 am on 25th April, I received a message from Model Code of Conduct (MCC) officer Munish Moudgil that Rs 10 crore was kept at a place… When EC officials along with Income Tax officers raided Madavara village under the Chikkaballapur constituency, they found Rs 4.8 crore cash kept for distribution among the voters.”

IAS officer Moudgil also claimed that he received a WhatsApp call and three messages from a number identified to be that of Sudhakar asking for the seized cash to be released. He, thereafter, filed a complaint with the police.

The Madanayakanahalli police have registered a case under Sections 171E (bribery), 171F (undue influence or personation at an election), 171B (bribery to exercise any electoral right), 171C (undue influence at elections) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 123 (corrupt practices) of the Representation of the People Act.

K Sudhakar is contesting against Congress’s Raksha Ramaiah in Chikkaballapur. Till 5 pm on Friday, the voter turnout in the constituency stood at 70.97 per cent.

K Sudhakar had lost the Chikkaballapur Assembly seat in the state polls held last year.
