Aero show starts today: Focus on joint development and exports, says Govt
India will discuss both export opportunities and joint development of defence equipment at the defence ministers’ conclave on February 14 which is scheduled as part of Aero India 2023, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said Sunday.
Singh was addressing the media ahead of the 14th edition of Aero India to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday. The biennial event will be held from February 13 to 17 and will see participation from 98 countries.
The defence ministers of 32 countries, air chiefs of 29 countries and 73 CEOs of global and Indian OEMs are expected to attend the event where 809 defence companies, including MSMEs and start-ups, will showcase niche technologies and the growth in the aerospace and defence sector.

India and the United States of America are working on a new defence innovation roadmap along with a new start-up relationship in the defence industrial sector, said Jedidiah P Royal, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs, on Sunday.
Responding to queries at a media briefing of the US delegation ahead of the fourteenth edition of Aero India which will begin in Bengaluru on Monday, Royal said the recent meeting between India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and his US counterpart set forth a “very ambitious agenda”. There is a new defence innovation roadmap with a couple of proposals from the US. These deal with artillery and mobility, he said. The US is also looking at a new start-up relationship in the defence industrial sector, Royal added.
On the US aircraft displayed at the biennial Aero India show, Rear Admiral Michael Baker, Senior Defence Official of the US Embassy, said they will be displaying two F-18 hornets and two F-16 vipers. To a question on whether F-35, a stealth multirole combat aircraft, will participate in the show, Baker said that “if it were to come to the airshow” it would be the most advanced aircraft (at Aero India).
Aero India 2023: HAL to display scale model of HLFT-42, full spectrum of training capabilities
As part of Aero India 2023, beginning on February 13 at the Air Force Station Yelahanka, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) Friday announced it will showcase its full spectrum of training capabilities and display for the first time the scale model of Hindustan Lead in Fighter Trainer (HLFT)-42.
HLFT-42 is a ‘Next Gen Supersonic Trainer’ that will play a critical role in modern combat aircraft training, equipped with the state-of-the-art avionics like Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA), Electronic Warfare (EW) Suite, Infrared Search and Track (IRST) with Fly by Wire control (FBW) system.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday said days are not far away when India can manufacture its own aircraft, particularly in Bengaluru. The Chief Minister also said he is in talks with the people involved in the business across the globe to make it happen.
"Bengaluru manufactures all parts required for an aircraft. My ambitious dream is that the day should not be far away where we can build own aircraft in our country that too in Bengaluru," Bommai said during the curtain raiser event here for the Aero India show. The 14th edition of India's largest aerospace and defence exhibition, Aero India, takes off here on Monday.
"I am trying very hard and talking to the people concerned internationally. That day is not far away where India can build its own aircraft," the Chief Minister said. Hailing Bengaluru, Bommai said the city is a hub and future for aerospace industry and thus it is the best place to host the Aero India show.
"We can showcase the capabilities of our Indian aerospace technologies, manufacturing units both in commercial and defence aircraft building in the show," the Chief Minister added. Bommai gave credit to those who had invested their intelligence in Bengaluru to build an Aero Space ecosystem.
He lauded the Centre, which successfully conducted the Aero India show during the COVID time when the Paris Aero Show was cancelled due to the pandemic. "Hosting Aero Show during Covid speaks the capabilities of our defence and aerospace industry. It has increased our confidence," the Chief Minister said.
Aero India show this time has become the biggest event in terms of exhibits, presence of a large contingent of the foreign defence industry, number of CEOs attending and a large number of displays which had never happened in the past, he said. According to Bommai, the curtain raiser is important and significant because it shows that the right things are being done at the right place for the future of the country.

Two tigers were captured in Nagarhole and shifted to Koorgalli rehabilitation centre by the Karnataka Forest Department on Tuesday.

Bangalore University students association on Tuesday staged a protest at the Jnana Bharathi campus against Jain University CMS for an offensive skit against BR Ambedkar and Dalit community. The students who called on a self imposed bandh demanded serious action against University authorities and cancelling University status to the Jain institutions.

They also demanded the installation of an Ambedkar statue at Jain University's premises. A 34-year-old private school teacher in Bengaluru was murdered in her home near the Nanjappa Circle in Central Bengaluru Monday. The deceased has been identified as Kousar Mubeena, according to the police.
A police official said the person who committed the murder was known to her. Mubeena was stabbed three times in the neck and was found dead in a pool of blood near the main entrance of her house. A special court for cases against elected representatives in Karnataka convicted BJP MLA Nehru Olekar, his two sons and six associates on charges of corruption, and sentenced them to two years of simple imprisonment on Monday.
The case pertains to the 2009-2011 period when the previous BJP government was in power in the state and Olekar, the MLA from Haveri city in north Karnataka, used his position to get civil contracts granted to his sons for utilisation of the Rs 1 crore MLA funds available to him. Read more

Karnataka will make a big contribution to making India a global leader, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Monday.
Speaking at Aero India Show-2023 launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Monday, he said to achieve this, as wished by the Prime Minister, the State will make contributions in its way towards the economy, social system, and defense sector.
"The ongoing airshow has been the biggest event at the international level due to its size, exhibition, and working style. Through this, India has displayed its strength in the defence sector. During the Covid pandemic, when the airshow in Paris did not hold, it was held on a grand scale in Bengaluru. This time, the area and the number of exhibitors are more," he said.
The Chief Minister said that the HAL was established in Karnataka in 1940, BHEL, BEL, and DRDO in 1950, and ISRO in 1960. (ANI)

A 34-year-old schoolteacher has allegedly been murdered at her home near Nanjappa circle in central Bengaluru on Monday.
The deceased person has been identified as Kousar Mubeen, who worked at a private school. She was a divorcee and lived with her daughter, a Class 7 student.
A police officer said that the person who committed the murder was someone known to her. Though she screamed while being stabbed, the accused fled the spot by the time the neighbours responded. Ashoknagar police have registered a case and a probe is underway.
A 39-year-old First Division Assistant (revenue inspector) has been found dead in his brother's residence in Belagavi on Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Zafar Firzadeh, a resident of Belagavi who worked in the district. He is the husband of KAS officer Reshma Thalikoti who is presently working as special land acquisition officer Hidkal Dam irrigation project.
To the prima facie, the police suspect it is a suicide, "but are yet to arrive at a conclusion."
Belagavi APMC police have registered a case and a probe is underway.

In a major development, Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) has announced Shafi Bellare, one of the accused in BJP worker Praveen Nettaru's murder case. Riyaz Kadambu the SDPI state committee member confirmed to Indian Express that Shafi Bellare will be contesting from the Puttur constituency.
We consulted our local workers in Puttur who said that Shafi Bellare would be the right candidate. "Shafi has been framed in the murder case as he was emerging as a leader in the region. Even if he is in prison, he will contest from there. We also went to send a message to SDPI workers that we will stand with them even if authorities conspire against the workers."

The Karnataka government is keen on providing more eggs to schoolchildren as part of the midday meals programme, School Education and Literacy Minister B C Nagesh said Monday.
While eggs are provided to school children studying till Class 8 for 46 days per academic year, “the government is considering (a proposal) to give them on more days,” Nagesh told the Legislative Council in response to a question from JD(S) legislator KA Thippeswamy. A 40-year-old man was arrested on Monday for allegedly giving triple talaq, a punishable offence, to his wife, officials said. The man was arrested from Bengaluru airport while he was scheduled to leave for Britain on Monday morning, they added.
"The incident took place on October 2022, but came to light earlier this month after his wife, aged 36, filed a police complaint in east Delhi's Kalyanpuri," a police officer said.
The Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act 2019, which the Parliament passed in July 2019, makes the practice of instant divorce through the 'triple talaq' among Muslims a punishable offence.
Triple talaq (instant divorce) and talaq-e-mughallazah (irrevocable divorce) are now banned instruments of divorce previously available to Muslims in the country, especially adherents of Hanafi Sunni Islamic schools of jurisprudence. (ANI)
The Karnataka government is planning to hold a 'Vishwa Yakshagana Sammelana' and discussions on the proposal are in the initial stages, Minister for Kannada and Culture V Sunil Kumar has said.
Yakshagana is a traditional folk dance form popular in coastal Karnataka. It is an elaborate dance-drama performance that combines dance, music, song, scholarly dialogues and colourful costumes. Hence, the name Yaksha (celestial) Gana (music).
Addressing the valedictory of the first state-level Yakshagana Sammelana in Udupi on Sunday night, he said a data bank of Yakshagana artistes will be created by the culture department.
The data bank will collect information on different schools of Yakshagana and its artistes, he said. Kumar added that the government had allocated Rs 2 crore for the state-level Yakshagana Sammelana this year. (PTI)
